What are my financial responsibilities as a foster parent?                                                                                                               Foster parents provide their pups with food, a safe indoor environment, proper socialization, toys, and plenty of love. Ollie's Angels covers all medical expenses should any arise.

How long will I be expected to foster?                                                                                                                                       Foster pups stay in their foster homes until they are adopted into a forever home. Typically this can range from a week to a month or two. Each puppy/dog is different, and some wait longer than others for their forever family to find them. 

What if my foster pup is not working out in my home?                                                                                                                  We do our very best to place each pup in an appropriate foster home. Although not typical, occasionally a foster does not fit into his/her foster home. If this occurs, we will immediately begin looking for a more suitable placement. As a foster based rescue, we do not have the convenience of a facility, so we ask for the foster parent's patience as we find a new home for the pup.       

Will be foster pup be healthy?                                                                                                                                                    Ollie's Angels has a strict health protocol in place for all of our rescues. This includes an initial health assessment, deworming, age appropriate vaccines, flea/tick treatment, and 2 week quarantine period prior to transport to LI. We do our very best to ensure the health of our pups!

What if my foster dog has to go to the vet?                                                                                                                                    Our fosters are to be seen ONLY by Ollie's Angels veterinarian; they cannot be taken to a foster's own veterinarian. All veterinary visits must be approved by Melissa prior to the pup/dog being brought in for medical care. If you are unable to bring the pup to the doctor, we will arrange for someone to take him/her to be seen. 

Can I foster if I work during the day?                                                                                                                                      Young pups (up to 6 months) require a foster home where someone is around during the day. Older dogs may due well in a home with a working foster parent. These dogs will be placed in working foster homes on an individual basis.

What happens if I fall in love with my foster and want to adopt?                                                                                                We strongly believe that a foster pup should never be removed from a safe and loving foster home. We will always give top priority for adoption to the foster parent; however, if a suitable forever family is approved to adopt the pup/dog, we cannot allow the foster to hold onto the dog as a foster pup. The foster family will need to sign an adoption contract, or the pup will go to his/her forever home.

Will it be hard to say goodbye?                                                                                                                                                       Yes, it will most likely be very difficult! Many people say they won't foster because it's too hard to let go, but without our selfless foster families, our pups would still be in danger.  We consider ourselves a family, and the majority of our adoptive parents keep in close touch with their pup's foster families. Letting your pup go is much easier when you see him/her thriving in his forever home.  Best of all, sending your foster to his/her new home means you are now able to help save another life! All the directors of Ollie's Angels foster themselves, so we are always here to help and encourage you along the way!
