Ollie's Angels, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was named in honor of Melissa's beautiful white lab. Melissa “fostered” and eventually adopted Ollie in April of 2013 after he was rescued from living outside on a chain in North Carolina for 7 years. When he arrived to her home, Ollie was nameless, emaciated, and positive for Heartworm, Lyme's disease, and Ehrlicia. He also limped and suffered from severe pain in his hind legs. It took many long months of love and devotion, but Melissa slowly nursed Ollie back to health. Although he had issues for the remainder of his life, including hip dysplasia, arthritis, and neurological episodes, he lived the rest of his days surrounded only by love. The bond that existed between Ollie and Melissa was unlike any other, and Ollie gave this special love back tenfold with his unending devotion to his mom. The feeling was definitely mutual. Sadly, after fighting so hard to stay by her side, Ollie passed away peacefully in Melissa’s arms on July 15th, 2018. He was her shadow, her angel, her best friend, and from the first day she looked into his eyes, Melissa knew they were meant to be together. Life without Ollie has proven to be tremendously difficult, but in his honor, Melissa and her team of dedicated volunteers continue to be the voice for all of Ollie’s special angels who suffer needlessly and cannot speak for themselves.
